Purpose: To foster the love of reading. Learning Target: I can read and understand grade level text. Age group: 7th grade students (volunteer basis)
What is it? The Book Bowl is like a quiz bowl competition. The questions for the book bowl competition are taken from three, pre-selected novels that the participants will read.
Featured Titles: Ghost by Jason Reynolds The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill
How does it work? Students will be given the opportunity to volunteer to participate. There will be 6 - 10 people per team.
Timeline Oct. 8-12Week 1: Get to know each other. Check out first book. Discuss procedures/timeline. Oct. 15-19Week 2: Brainstorm ideas for a team name. Start thinking about ideas for poster. Begin discussion of book 1 Oct. 22-26Week 3: Check in/return first book. Review questions/do Quizzlet or Kahoot on computers. Check out 2nd book Oct. 29 – Nov. 2Week 4: Decide on final Team name. Work on poster. Discuss 2nd book. Nov. 5 – 9Week 5: Check in/return 2nd book. Review questions/do Quizzlet or Kahoot on computers. Check out 3rd book and Work on poster. Nov. 12 – 16Week 6: Finish poster – all posters due by Nov. 16th. Discuss 3rd book. Identify 2 spokespersons for your team. Nov. 19 – 23:Week 7: No meetings due to Thanksgiving break. Nov. 26 – 30:Week 8: Check in/return all books. Review questions/do Quizzlet or Kahoot on computers. Dec. 3 – 7: Week 9: Review all books in a practice session for real event. Dec. 7th Friday: Event during 1st Hour.
