The 7th Grade Book Bowl Oct. 9 - Dec. 8, 2017
Purpose: To foster the love of reading. Learning Target: I can read and understand grade level text. Age group: 7th grade students (volunteer basis)
What is it? The Book Bowl is like a quiz bowl competition. The questions for the book bowl competition are taken from three, pre-selected novels that the participants will read.
Featured Titles: Ghost by Jason Reynolds The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill
How does it work? Students will be given the opportunity to volunteer to participate. There will be 6 - 10 people per team.
Timeline Oct. 9-13Week 1: Get to know each other Check out first book Discuss procedures/timeline Oct. 16-20Week 2: Brainstorm ideas for a team name Start thinking about ideas for poster Begin discussion of book 1 Oct. 23-27Week 3: Check in/return first book Review questions/do Quizzlet or Kahoot on computers Check out 2nd book Oct. 30 – Nov. 3Week 4: Decide on final Team name Work on poster Discuss 2nd book Nov. 6 – 10Week 5: Check in/return 2nd book Review questions/do Quizzlet or Kahoot on computers Check out 3rd book and Work on poster Nov. 13 – 17Week 6: Finish poster – all posters due by Nov. 17th Discuss 3rd book Identify 2 spokespersons for your team Nov. 20 – 24:Week 7: No meetings due to Thanksgiving break. Nov. 27 – Dec 1st. Week 8: Check in/return all books Review questions/do Quizzlet or Kahoot on computers. Dec. 4 – 7: Week 9: Review all books in a practice session for real event. Dec. 8th Friday: Event during 1st Hour.
